Emily Ponsonby
British artist Emily Ponsonby (b.1990) is known for her sensitive depictions of the nude, exploring the transition of emotions through a sensory experience.
Her current work is a deep dive into the remedial effects of immersing the body in water and the feeling of physical and mental weightlessness when fully submerged. The richly layered surfaces of her paintings, where the trace of touch connects painter with observer, evokes a response that goes beyond the constraints of words.
Ponsonby trained at City and Guilds of London Art School (2010), Leith School of Art, Edinburgh (2010 - 2013) and The Royal Drawing School (2015). She has exhibited across the UK and in South Africa and has been the recipient of residencies at Villa Lena, Italy (2021) and Casa Balandra, Mallorca (2021).
